Be the Alchemist

Go on your own journey and discover your treasure.

Alchemy is mainly known as transforming base metal (such as lead) into a noble metal (such as gold). But it is also about transforming your soul—your spirit—into something greater.

In the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, the protagonist Santiago goes on a quest to find his treasure. He experiences good fortune and opportunities mixed in with set-backs and disappointments. And all the while, he keeps going, following the signs that lead him to where he needs to go.

Santiago eventually finds his treasure at the place where he first had his vision, but he needed to go on his journey in order to fully embrace and be ready for it.

Every experience he had along the way helped him grow into himself.

So it is the same with us. We keep on going through the ups and downs in order to find our own personal treasure, that which lives inside us. Our treasure asks us to shed our outer leaden layers in order to find the gold within.

It requires us to go out into the world and have adventures, try different things and lead with courage.

Along the way we may have some missteps—after all, alchemy takes time to perfect. There can be many false starts, ideas that don't work for us, belief systems we don't like. It is all part of the transformational experience.

While others may share their knowledge and experience with us, it is up to us how we use it. Your treasure can only be discovered by you.

You don't find your treasure if you are just standing still doing the same thing day in and day out. So go forth on your journey. Follow the signs, see where they lead you.

Be the Alchemist.
