Full Moon eclipse in Gemini

Welcome to eclipse season. A time when the energy is even higher than usual, in a year that has been anything but usual.

At the New Moon in Gemini at the end of May I wrote about how we were about to go down the rabbit hole Alice in Wonderland-style.

Things are bound to get weirder. We don’t know what lies ahead, but what we all need to do is put on our explorer hats and get curious. Curious about our lives, our relationships and what we want the world to be like for all of us. The Coronavirus has changed us all in different ways and this Gemini season is the perfect opportunity to discover who you are now.

And what a rabbit hole. I went into the rabbit hole of a long stage 4 lockdown in Melbourne. The US went into the rabbit hole that ended with the election of a new President. Countries in Europe went through various stages of low COVID numbers only to be thrust back into lockdown again once the colder weather hit.

What discoveries did you make down your rabbit hole?

There’s no question that the outer realities affecting our lives have made us shift our inner realities. In this shift we need new information—to collect more data—before we can make our decisions.

Gemini loves to learn. It is a sign that gathers information, finding out as much as it can about everything. It is through its opposite sign, Sagittarius, that we explore subjects in depth, and through that exploration form a belief system.

The full moon will sweep out the old beliefs that no longer work for us so we can create a space to discover new ideas that suit us better.

Gemini is the journalist finding out the facts. But it is also the town gossip spreading rumours. It's the sign of the Twins, representing our dual natures. It's how we shift and change to suit different situations.

What are you learning and what are you sharing? Are you taking on a balanced diet of information from a variety of sources or is it just from one or two that you believe as gospel without doing more research? And how adaptable are you to change?

Mercury rules this eclipse. It is still in Scorpio, which gives a sprinkling of depth to the proceedings. We’ll be wanting to know the who, what, when, where, why and how—and also what it had for breakfast, it’s favourite colour and how much money it has in the bank.

The eclipse comes off the back of Neptune stationing direct. Neptune has a dreamy, romantic quality to it. It is higher love—spiritual love, love for humanity—and also rules our imagination. But Neptune can lead us into illusion. Now is the time to drop the cloak from our eyes, see things as they really are, and then find creative solutions.

Gemini is a mutable sign, which basically means that it is a sign that can change easily when needed, but on the flip side it can pull you in many directions. In the lead-up to the Full Moon I have felt very distracted, switching tasks at the drop of a hat and heading off on spontaneous outings (even this post has been written in little spurts over a number of days and to be honest is as scatty as I feel).

This full moon can also bring a craving for social time or adventure, or obsessively checking your messages, social media or inbox to see if anything new is there. Gemini rules the nervous system, so a heightened sense of anxiety or just general twitchiness or restlessness may also be felt. It’s like you feel like you have so much to do and need to be everywhere at once but can’t possibly manage it, yet still want to add more to the list.

Calm your mind by sitting and breathing, counting your breath in and out. This will give you a chance to calm and refocus. Also prioritise your to-do list with what needs to be done right now, what would be nice to do, and what can wait.

With so much mental agitation it’s more important than ever to take a break from the thoughts in your mind and connect in with your body. One of the best ways I find to do this is through is dancing. Feel into the full moon with my Gemini playlist—see below for more info.

It’s important to remember that full moons are a time of endings and eclipses bring sudden changes. It’s like the cosmic version of Marie Kondo saying goodbye to what no longer brings your life joy (even if its leaving feels painful right now). Whatever is leaving your life is meant to go. It’s creating space.

Now go gather that info.

A ritual for the Full Moon in Gemini

I have curated a playlist on Spotify to take you through the Gemini themes of thinking, learning, communication and being social. To get the greatest benefit out of it, I recommend that you dance to this. When we dance we move energy through our bodies and can shift things that we didn’t even know we needed to shift. In some cases, we may not even be aware of what we released but just feel generally ‘lighter’ afterwards.

Dancing under the energy of the Full Moon is extra-powerful as this is a natural time for us to release old patterns, beliefs, ideas, emotions that we no longer need. It helps create space within us to invite in something new.

How to do this ritual

Set-up: Find a space in your home where you won’t be disturbed for at least an hour. Make sure you have enough space to dance without bumping into furniture. Have a water bottle on hand so you can stay hydrated. Also have your journal or some paper to record any thoughts that may come up during the ritual.

Head to the Settings in Spotify and make sure you have turned off Autoplay so that once the playlist ends you are able to sit in silence. (If you are using the mobile app you will find Autoplay under Settings - Playback.) Also make sure that you have turned off any other shuffle or repeat settings—you want to listen to the playlist in the order that it has been curated.

Set up any speakers or headphones so that you have the best sound possible. (I like to listen through headphones so I can really block out other sounds and feel into the music.)

Create a mood: Light a candle or some incense, dim the lights.

Read the blog post about the themes of this Full Moon, then perhaps sit in contemplation or journal out some of the things that you personally wish to release and transform.

When you are ready, start the playlist. Move your body in a way that feels intuitive in each moment. No-one is watching so you can really let go of your inhibitions. When moving, I like to close my eyes or have a soft gaze so I stay more in my body. Just make sure you stay aware of where you are in the room so you don’t bang into any furniture and hurt yourself.

The playlist is designed to take you on a journey through the Gemini themes of thinking, learning, communication and being social. If thoughts, feelings or emotions come up for you keep moving them through your body. You might find that certain areas of your body, like your shoulders or hips, feel stiff at first and want to be moved in a certain way. This is your body releasing things that have become stuck.

The final track is a sound healing. Sit or lie down and allow the music to wash over you as your nervous system settles.

Once the music ends, you may find you want to lie in silence for awhile or journal about your experience. Just do whatever comes to you intuitively.

Drink plenty of water after the ritual. Having a shower afterwards or a soak in the bath with some epsom/himalayan sea salts can be really nice as well to help symbolically ‘wash away’ anything that you were releasing. Eating magnesium-rich foods (bananas, almonds, dark chocolate) can also help replenish your system.

You might feel like you have an ‘energetic hangover’ the next day or have emotions come up. Be gentle with yourself, rest when you can, drink lots of water.

I have been working with this style of ritual on the Full Moon for awhile now and have found it to be a great way to release and let go. I hope you find it as beneficial as I do.

With love

Tanya
