Is your life busy or full?

How you spend your time is your choice.

Last night I was looking at my schedule. It feels like every weekend between now and the end of April is taken up with some activity. This was stressing me out. 'I am so busy!' was the mantra running through my head 'April will be over before I know it!'.

Then I had to stop myself, because the busy-ness and the activities are actually really fun things: visiting my sister and her family, volunteering at a wellness festival, camping with friends at another festival, Ukrainian Easter sleepovers with my nieces and nephew. It's all connection and spending time with people I love, doing things I love.

It occured to me that during the past month I became so stuck in the grind of the day-to-day, and just getting through, that I had been wishing my time away. Declaring a month over before it even begins.

I had fallen back into using the word 'busy' as a badge of honour. Our society loves to be busy. It's like a competition that whoever has the most to do is the winner of life. I don't really want to be part of that competition. The way I see it is that 'busy' implies spending your time doing things that you don't really want to do, and I want to fill my life with things that I want to do.

So. I am not busy. My life is Full.

Full of wonderful people and wonderful activities.

Ultimately, it's up to us what we fill our lives with. We have a choice with what we do with our time. We choose what interests to pursue, who we spend our time with, how much space we need to reset and recharge our energy. We have a choice in the type of work we do, with the things we learn, the food we eat, the places we go.

When you're in the grind it can be easy to forget this. When an event or situation seemingly blows up your life and you are scrambling to pick up the pieces, remember that you can choose how you put the pieces back together.

If you don't like what your life is filled with right now, what would you rather fill it with? What steps are you going to take to change this?

Busy or full, it's up to you.

I choose full.
