11/12 February 2021

2021 was always going to have an Aquarian flavour thanks to the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction which marked the beginning of a whole new cycle for humanity. But in case we needed a reminder, for this New Moon we have six planets in Aquarius. SIX!
In a way it’s not surprising—after all, Aquarius is a sign that is known for its inclusivity and collective mindset so why wouldn’t more than half of the planets want to get together for a party?
Joining the Sun and Moon we have Mercury which is just over halfway through its retrograde. On February 8 Mercury crossed the Sun, a term known as Cazimi. When this happens, it’s like Mercury gets cleansed by the energy of the Sun, and problems or roadblocks get ‘burnt up’. You may find that a misunderstanding suddenly cleared up or you gained clarity on something that’s been plaguing you. With the retrograde continuing until February 21 you aren’t quite out of the woods yet, but suddenly the path seems clearer.
Mercury is the communicator, the messenger, and right now it wants us to be reflecting on our own hopes and dreams for our community. What makes up your community? How do you interact with it? What vision do you have for the world and how are you helping to bring this into form?
Aquarius has two planetary rulers: Saturn and Uranus. We currently have Saturn transiting through Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus. Saturn likes rules and boundaries, Uranus likes change and freedom. This year, the two planets will be squaring each other three times. A square denotes tension, bringing about situations where we are forced to make adjustments in order to move forward.
In terms of the wider world, these challenges will show themselves as a struggle between the old and new, the status quo vs. change and our responsibilities vs. freedom (or to put another spin on it, being responsible with our freedom). Globally we’ll see this play out in science, technology, money (such as the rise of crypto currencies) and agriculture (like underground farming—watch more here at the 40min mark).
The first of these squares occurs on 17 February, followed by June 14 and December 24, so mark those dates in your diary and take note of what arises for you.
I have these squares happening between my fifth house (creativity, self-expression, children, pleasure, dating) and my seventh house (relationships, partners, other 1:1 collaborations). It’s like being true to my personal self-expression will change the partnerships in my life, whether they be romantic, work-related or other.
Just hours before the New Moon, Venus and Jupiter will meet up in a conjunction. This brings a sense of optimism to the New Moon—a feeling like anything is possible and no problem is unsolvable. Under this Aquarian influence, there really are no limits to your ideas. Use the Jupiterian influence to tap into your Venusian values and find innovative ways to reach your goals. Be open for aligned people to enter your life and help you turn ideas into form. This is also just a really good time to expand your social circle through joining a community group or taking up a new hobby.
This year we are blessed with two Full Moons in Aquarius in July and August, further adding to the Aquarian energy of the year. What we begin at this New Moon will grow and evolve before coming to a peak at the Aquarian Full Moons.
A word of warning—Aquarius is a Fixed sign meaning that sometimes we can have our blinkers on a bit and are unable to accept other people’s points of view. Make sure you take in the ideas and opinions of others and think about what they have to offer. A good collaboration can result in an even better outcome.
This year is all about new creations. The only constant is change, life is always evolving etc. etc. etc. But you are in the driver’s seat. You have the freedom to make choices, to grow, take action and turn the wildest possibilities in your imagination into reality.
I’ll leave you with a song from one of my favourite movies, which has one of the most Aquarian characters of all time.
If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There's nothing to it
There is no life I know
To compare with pure imagination
Living there you'll be free
If you truly wish to be
