New Moon in Pisces

New Moon in Pisces, 13 March 2021

Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac. It’s the time when we wrap up the year that was and reflect on all we learnt as the Sun moved through each sign, so we are ready for the burst of fresh ‘get it started’ Aries energy.

Pisces is a mutable sign (the ability to change and adapt) which allows us to let go of what’s going and allow what’s coming to come.

As someone who mostly has planets in signs which are cardinal (getting things started) and fixed (seeing things through), I can often find it frustrating to just ‘go with the flow’. Especially during Pisces season, the flowiest of all the mutable signs.

I feel like I have been moving through molasses during this Pisces season—in particular around the Virgo Full Moon, and especially in the lead-up to this New Moon. Time has been elastic and each day has brought delightful distractions that has meant my to-do list ended up gathering dust. My dreams have also been especially vivid and interesting (in one Oprah was my life coach).

And yet, it is this intuitive flow that Pisces is all about. It is our connection to source energy, to the collective consciousness.

The lesson from Pisces is to pay attention to your dreams, follow your gut instinct, flow with the current of life and all will be well.

Pisces is also a very artistic, creative sign. Even if you can’t draw to save yourself this New Moon is an excellent time to express your creativity, whether that’s inventing a new recipe, redecorating or dancing around the house. Or rest if that is what you need, and feed your imagination by losing yourself in a good book, movie or TV show.

This New Moon is very close to Neptune and Venus—representing love in both its highest form and the love we have for others. There is a dreaminess that comes with this, and indeed a danger to idealise and be blinded by illusion. Enjoy the romantic, blissful vibes and fantasies about the future, but don’t get too swept away in it. Make sure you are also aware of the reality of the person standing in front of you. They are human, just like you, with all of their human traits and habits.

With Mars freshly in Gemini we can feel a pull toward new ideas. And boy, it can feel great to have a breath of fresh air blowing through especially after last year’s Mars retrograde followed by its transit in Taurus. Just be careful not to spread yourself too thin—Gemini is also a mutable sign and Mars here can leave our energy scattered. When you feel yourself getting anxious about all you have to do, stop for a moment and focus on your breath. Otherwise enjoy being drawn toward new ideas—you never know where that rabbit hole will take you.

Finally, Mercury will leave its post-retrograde shadow on this New Moon. Take a moment to reflect on what came up for you during this retrograde and the shifts you will take going forward.

I haven’t fully set my goals/intentions for 2021 yet. It does feel like this Pisces season has been a letting go, a shedding of the old. The ideas have been coming but the plan is not yet on paper. If you have been the same, next week we have the Equinox and the Sun moving into Aries which is perfect energy to set out your plans.

This New Moon is a moment to dream, to rest, to create, to dance. It’s an invitation to get into the flow of life—to ride the currents to where they are taking you—and a reminder that your intuition is your best navigator.
