New Moon in Scorpio, November 2020

It’s been a big week.

Jupiter and Pluto met up on Thursday/Friday for the third and last time this year. These tête-à-têtes have had us unearthing and examining our philosophies and belief systems: What do I believe? Why do I believe this?

Mars stationed direct on November 13/14, ending a nine-week retrograde where we have been exploring our ego, our id, our energy, motivation, assertion and action-taking prowess. The struggle has been real. It will take the rest of 2020 for Mars to retrace his retrograde steps, so it’ll be a bit of time before we have fully regained our strength.

And then the weekend ends with the New Moon in Scorpio.

There are three parts to Scorpio: the scorpion, encased in its hard shell stinging all those that threaten it; the eagle, rising above it all; and the phoenix, who bursts into flames and then rises from the ashes.

At the Full Moon in Scorpio back in May, we really did burst into flames. By then, COVID-19 had well and truly taken over our lives and the world as we knew it had come to an end. In the passing six months, we have been sifting through the ashes trying to make sense of it all—who and what we value, resolving personal trauma, fighting against what we saw as unjust in the world, having personal freedoms taken away.

Now, it’s time to rise.

Scorpio is the sign we look to when we want to reinvent ourselves. It is the opposite to Taurus, who finds change challenging and likes to enjoy things just as they are. And while Taurus is focused on its own values, Scorpio gets us to look at other people’s values—it’s about power through shared resources.

Mars is the original ruler of Scorpio, so the timing of the red planet turning direct is not a coincidence: we are new warriors now. Just as Albert Einstein said, ‘We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them’.

How is your inner warrior? What has it learnt over the past couple of months about what drives and motivates you? With how you advocate for yourself?

This New Moon is a chance to think about how you will approach things differently. List out the areas of your life (home, health [physical and mental], family/friends, relationship, money, hobbies, spirituality) and give them a mark out of 10. Get honest with yourself about what’s not working for you and why, then think of new ways you can change. What resources are available to you? How can you be more intentional with your actions? What will make you feel powerful?

Being clear on what you want and need is important as we head toward the end of the year. If you are unsure what to do, feel into your gut. Your intuition is leading you to the right thing.

Eclipse season starts in two weeks and the end of 2020 culminates in Saturn and Jupiter leaving Capricorn and moving into Aquarius, ushering in a new wave of thinking (the last time the planets were like this was during the Enlightenment). If 2020 was the earthquake, 2021 is when we start to sift through the rubble and think about how we will rebuild.

Rise baby, rise.
