Reflect, Reset, Reimagine

Take time out to reflect on your goals.

We're nearly at the end of the first quarter of 2019. Time has flown so quickly, that for some it feels like the year hasn't yet begun as we haven't had a chance to sink our teeth into our goals for the year.

Perhaps you too feel that the intentions you set for yourself at the start of the 2019 have lain forgotten as you've dealt with unexpected personal earthquakes that have shaken your life. Trust me when I say that any radical shifts or changes are pointing us all in a new and better direction.

We are not the same people who woke up on 1 January 2019. Some things that we thought were certain in our lives then are gone. Ideas that we may have had no longer appeal. Plans that we had in place have been derailed.

So with all of this in mind, it feels like a good time to hit the reset button.

In my first post this year, I asked the following questions:

+ How do you want to evolve this year? + What do you want to achieve? Why? + What do you need to do to get there? + How do you want to feel? + What do you want your life to look like this time next year? + What obstacles do you feel are in the way of where you are now, and where you want to be?

Find your answers and see if what you wrote still resonates. If it doesn't, revise your answers based on where you are now. If you didn't answer these questions at the start of the year, take some time to reflect on them now.

I'd like to add a few more questions to the list: + What significant events have you already experienced this year? + What was your response to them? Do you feel you could have handled things differently? Why/why not? + How have these events impacted your life? + What did you learn from these events? + Why are you grateful that these occurred? (Yes, you will be able to find some good amongst it all.)

If you are feeling disheartened that you aren't as far along as you would like to be this year, remember that it is not just achieving our goals that should be celebrated, but everything that happens along the way.

Consider the movie The Wizard of Oz (one of my favourite films), each of the characters had the goal of reaching The Emerald City so the Wizard could give them what they sought: brains/intelligence, heart/compassion, courage/bravery, a sense of home/belonging.

Yet when they made it to the Wizard, he told them that what they already had what they wanted. They already had the capacity for solving problems, love, and feeling the fear but doing it anyway—and it was their journey along the way which helped bring these qualities out in them.

Their journey helped them realise what they were made of.

Your journey to wherever you want to go is bringing out your best qualities. So even if you feel like your plans have been derailed right now, or that you are coming up against obstacle after obstacle, this is part of reaching your goal. This is part of developing and enhancing the qualities which will help bring you what you desire.
