Reflections on New Moon in Cancer/Solstice/Venus direct

21–25 June 2020

The weekend was super-charged in terms of planetary energy. We had a New Moon in Cancer Eclipse, the Solstice, plus the beginning of Mercury’s retrograde through Cancer.

Then this week, Neptune turned retrograde on June 23, Jupiter has met up with Pluto in Capricorn and today (Thursday 25 June) Venus goes direct after her 40 day retrograde in Gemini.

So yeah, we’ve been hit with an energetic truck. If you feel like having a lie down, you’re not alone.

Where to begin? How to process it all? Sometimes I feel like when you are in the thick of something it is very hard to get the distance and perspective you need to unravel it all. You just need to keep on going as best you can, battling through the jungle with your pickaxe and head torch lighting the way. It’s only when the path clears and sunlight shines through that you can really appreciate where you have come from and celebrate what you have achieved.

The eclipse in Cancer on June 21 and the upcoming one in Capricorn (July 5) are the culmination of 18 months of Cancer/Capricorn eclipses. In this part of our charts we have purged, shifted, changed and set the foundations for the future.

It’s like we have been studying, sat our exams, and then after the Capricorn eclipse in two weeks we can finally graduate.

Cancer is heart and hearth led by emotions and intuition; Capricorn is toil and mastery driven by creating a legacy. They are two ends of a stick that we have been learning how to balance—the nurturer and the CEO. What have you been nurturing within yourself these past 18 months and what have you been mastering?

The Solstice coinciding with the Cancer New Moon added another layer to what was already a heavy weekend. In the Northern Hemisphere, this was the Summer Solstice—a time to celebrate and enjoy the fruits of your labour. In the Southern Hemisphere this was the Winter Solstice, a time to go inward, rest and reflect. If you haven’t already done so, take a moment to mark this mid-year point (and yes, I can’t believe that we are already halfway through this year). Give yourself some time to sit and reflect on the year that has already been: the things you have done, experienced, learnt.

It’s been a HUGE six months of growth and change for everyone. Stop and acknowledge that.

Next, let’s talk about Mercury’s retrograde. This happens a few times a year, so it’s a retrograde we are very familiar with. This time around the retrograde is happening in Cancer. When Mercury retrogrades through a water sign, it’s a chance for us to drop out of our thinking, rational minds and feel into our hearts. We may feel like scuttling sideways away from issues for fear of getting our feelings hurt. But this is an opportunity to really embrace our vulnerability and learn how to express ourselves. We can’t expect others to really understand who we are or how we are feeling unless we tell them.

Mercury’s retrograde crosses over with Venus’s retrograde. The planet of love, relationships, money and values will turn direct after 40 days where we have been contemplating what we want out of our relationships, if we are getting that and if not, what we are going to do about it. With Mercury retrograde, there will still be some murky energy around this and some crossed-wires re. communication.

It probably won’t be until the end of July when we really feel clear about it all. But that’s not to say that you should put off that conversation. During her retrograde Venus switched from Evening Star to Morning Star and now she is bolder and braver—a Love Warrior. You will feel more encouraged to say it like it is without having any expectations from the other person. And you will feel stronger within your own worth to own what you want and walk away from situations that aren’t serving you. You deserve the best, and you will get it.
