Together apart

Full Moon in Libra

Up until recently being busy was seen as a badge of honour. We ran around from place to place, squeezing every minute out of every day and avoided sitting quietly with ourselves, just being.

And because we were so out of balance, along came a push from the Universe to get us to change.

Self-isolating, social distancing, lockdown. Whatever you want to call it, right now we humans are being called to physically distance ourselves from each other. We are being forced to slow down, forced to spend more time alone, forced to look at what we value and re-appreciate the little things we took for granted.

With the world the way it is at the moment, this Full Moon in Libra is pretty timely. It's also a Super Moon, which means the energy is heightened.

Libra is the seventh sign of the Zodiac. The first six (from Aries through to Virgo) are said to shape who we are, and when we reach Libra we start to learn who we are in relation to others.

The etymology of the word relationship is broken down into two parts, relation and ship. Relation being connection, correspondence; -ship a state or condition of being.

So relationships are a state of connection and correspondence (communication) with ourselves, others and the world around us.

This Full Moon is a celebration of relationships and how they shape us. There is the family we were born into, the friendships we create, the colleagues we have to work alongside, the love affairs that break our hearts and the ones that lift us up. It’s the highs and lows and everything in between. But most importantly, it’s about what we learn about ourselves through the experience of relating to others.

I’ve always said that Gurus are great, but our relationships are our greatest teachers.

Other people hold up a mirror to our shadows and scratch open our wounds for examination. They push us to change and evolve. Some people enter our lives for a short time but leave a significant mark. Others are by our side for a lot longer, and we spend our lives dancing around one another growing together and apart and together again.

It’s time to let go of old wounds and outdated beliefs to allow space for new relationships to develop, and for current relationships to evolve to the next level.

With all the people who come and go throughout our lives, the one constant relationship is the one we have with ourselves.

It’s a balance between the Me and the We.

The Sun in Aries reminds us not to lose our individuality, to hold our own opinions and to respect our own boundaries. It’s about knowing that sometimes saying what’s on our minds will disappoint or piss off those we love, and that’s okay if it comes from a place of honouring who we are. It’s about showing up as yourself knowing that you are being seen, heard and valued—and on the flip side, seeing, hearing and valuing others.

The Goddess Asteroid Juno is currently retrograde in Libra, very close to the Full Moon. Juno represents commitment and marriage, plus give-and-take and balance in partnerships. Highlighted here is a reflection on your commitment style and whether you tend to give more or take more in your partnerships. Anything out of balance here will be brought to your attention.

Venus, the ruler of Libra, has just moved into Gemini sparking curiosity and valuing communication. She's favourably aspected by Mars in Aquarius, who is driven by innovative ideas and working for the good of the collective. Here we are finding new ways to stay in touch with others, and wanting to play our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19 through doing what we can (and if that means staying home, then that is your very important role).

Balancing out all this air/mental energy we have the North Node in Cancer drawing us inward to focus on our home, family and what we need to feel safe and secure emotionally. Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn are transforming how we work, and changemaker Uranus over in Taurus keeps shifting our attitude to our personal possessions and resources. Neptune in Pisces reminds us that we’re all going through this together.

As we distance ourselves physically, let’s see it as an opportunity to connect more from the heart. Stripped of our usual activities and distractions, this is a time for conversation, for stripping away the facade and relating to each other on a new level during this shared experience.

By deepening our love for ourselves and others we’ll find ourselves making different choices about how we spend our time, money and resources. Through rebalancing our relationships with humans, we will naturally start to redress the imbalance in our relationship to the environment.

We’ve been pulled apart in order to come together. Find the balance and feel the shifts begin to take place.
