Full Moon in Gemini

Full Moon in Gemini, 18/19 December 2021

The Gemini Full Moon always comes in the middle of December just as we are kicking up our heels and getting out and about. The burst of social energy is welcome.

Gemini energy is mutable, ever-changing, hungry for new ideas and ways to share it. Depicted as the Twins, It also represents the duality within ourselves—light and dark, day and night, introvert and extrovert. Ruled by Mercury, the messenger of the gods, Gemini has the ability to shift and adapt to any situation.

This is not an eclipse. We have officially left the Gemini-Sagittarius eclipses behind for another 9 years, but we still have lingering lessons and things to shift into place. The Gemini-Sagittarius axis was teaching us about communication, seeking new information, spreading ideas and reevaluating old beliefs and knowledge.

Full Moons always illuminate our relationship with something, and this one wants us to see what ideas we are comfortable with and how we share them in the world.

It’s what information makes you feel safe emotionally and the words you say to yourself, your inner dialogue vs. the words you say to the world. Sagittarius can be preachy and dogmatic at times. Is your truth coming from an authentic place or are you saying what you think others want to hear?

This Full Moon is not without its bonus energy changes though. Within 12 hours of the Full Moon we have both Chiron stationing direct in Aries and Venus stationing retrograde in Capricorn.

Chiron is a minor planet or an asteroid, depending on what the astronomers decide. For astrologers it represents the wounded healer—your core wounds and how you heal them through helping others through similar situations. While Chiron has been transiting through Aries we have been working on our wounds in this part of our charts. A retrograde with Chiron always makes things more internally focused. As Aries represents the self, we have been working through our wounds about ourselves as individuals and being in our sovereignty. With Chiron going direct we can start to shift this energy so it has more of an outward focus, in that we help and heal others based on our own experiences.

At the same time we begin our Venus retrograde. During this time we are renewing, reevaluating and resetting our relationships, values and self-worth. With it happening in the sign of Capricorn, the CEO of the zodiac, this takes on a bit of a business feel. We are seeking commitment to long-term goals. And why shouldn’t we? Goals have their place and it’s good to know if something has future value.

The last Venus retrograde was in May 2020 in Gemini, which had more of a mental quality to it and focused on seeking ideas and communicating in our relationships. Now the earthy energy of Capricorn really wants us to get down to business. Relationships are always balancing out the ‘we’ and the ‘me’ so it will be interesting to take the energy of our Chiron work into this. Add in that Venus will be conjunct Pluto when she stations retrograde which will bring an extra boost to the process. Read this post for more details.

To round out the year we have the final Saturn-Uranus square on 24 December. The Saturn-Uranus square has been the backdrop for 2021 (occuring on 17 February and 14 June). Squares bring tension to begin with, and these two planets are also very different: Saturn brings structure and form, yet Uranus wants freedom from this, to break it down, innovate and change. It’s a challenge between the old and new, change and the status quo. Think about what moulds you have broken out of, or would like to break out of: this square will give you the push you need.

The exact time of the Full Moon is:

US Pacific: Saturday 18 December @ 8.35pm
