Step into the flame

New Moon in Scorpio

Leaves are falling all around

It's time I was on my way

Thanks to you I'm much obliged

For such a pleasant stay

But now it's time for me to go

The autumn moon lights my way

For now I smell the rain

And with it pain

And it's headed my way

Ah, sometimes I grow so tired

But I know I've got one thing I got to do

Ramble on

And now's the time, the time is now

To sing my song

What a funny old year we’ve been having. I know I’ve been saying that a lot lately, but it’s true. Things that once felt right and flowed suddenly feel wrong and like they are a struggle. Right now we are in a moment of course-correcting. The things in the past were right for us at the time. Now they are not. It’s time that we take all that we learned, say thanks, then become our own detective and dig up the thing that we are to do next.

There’s no sign that understands transformation quite like Scorpio. While Leo and Gemini might like to play dress-ups and try on new personas for awhile, Scorpio actually transforms into something or someone new. It’s like a snake, constantly shedding its old skin and showing its new self to the world. And at its most extreme, it’s the phoenix who bursts into flames then rises anew from the ashes, ready to do it all again.

Scorpio is often reduced to the description of sex, death and magick. It’s powerful, deep and complex. For me, this sign understands alchemy—the ability to transform base metals into gold. And we are all alchemists, taking the foundations of our inner self and spinning it into something more, something precious, and bringing it out into the world.

Just as alchemists spend years trying to perfect their metal-to-gold process, we are also perfecting our own method of transforming ourselves. It is a journey. And this moment of our journey feels like a perfect turning-point.

Uranus, the planet of change, is currently retrograde in Taurus. This is an uncomfortable pairing. Change is not in Taurus’s wheelhouse—it likes things as they are thank you very much. So since Uranus took up residence in March this year, there has been friction in the part of our lives where Taurus falls. As a bonus, this new moon in Scorpio is directly opposite Uranus, and the combination means that change is a-coming.

This New Moon wants us to shake up the old fixed parts of ourselves that we have outgrown: it’s time for a new skin whether we like it or not.

As an added bonus, Mercury (that trickster of a planet which rules communication) will turn retrograde in Scorpio on October 31. In this period we will be detectives, getting to the bottom of who we are and what it is we want.

During a New Moon the sky is normally dark. Often we can’t see the way forward so find it hard to take a step in a new direction because we aren’t sure of the way or the path ahead. Plus with all this change energy in the air you may be feeling uncomfortable right now. People resist change because the thought of doing something different makes them feel uncomfortable, but actually the discomfort comes from knowing that you have outgrown the situation/belief/person etc. and are resisting moving on.

Once you make the decision to move on, things will feel much easier; once you start taking the steps forward, the path will reveal itself to you.

In other words, all of those blocks you keep coming up against: these are a sign that it’s time to course-correct. Trust. Shed your skin, step into the flames. Rise renewed.

On this New Moon, consider:

+ What is no longer working for me in my life right now? How does this make me feel?

+ How do I want to feel instead?

+ What needs to change so that I can feel this way?

+ Why am I resisting this change?

+ What can I do to make this transformation easier?

+ What is my intention for the next phase in my life?
